Sompo Institute Plus Inc. is the think tank of the Sompo Group. The Institute was established in 1987 as a commemorating project for the 100-year foundation anniversary of Yasuda Fire & Marine Insurance Company (currently: Sompo Japan
Insurance Inc.).
The Sompo Group has embraced a Group Management Philosophy that calls on us to contribute to the security, health, and wellbeing of our customers by providing the highest quality services, and there by contribute to society. Our Group
mainly engages in the four businesses of domestic P&C insurance, overseas insurance, domestic life insurance, and nursing care & healthcare.
Since our inception, we have researched and studied in areas related to the insurance industry, such as product liability, consumer protection laws, and European and North American insurance companies’ trends, but currently, our scope
of research is not limited to insurance.
In addition to research of politics, economy, trade issues, etc., we now conduct research and make policy proposals concerning various matters, including social issues such as declining birthrates, aging population, social security and
climate change; social changes such as work style, employment, diversity & inclusion; community development and mobility services which are realized by digital technologies and so forth; futurology including the vision of the future
society. Our research findings are open to the public on this website.
In other words, in the age of VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity), through the above research and studies, we believe it is our mission to identify emerging social issues that may occur and to explore new businesses
which can contribute to the solution of such issues in a future-oriented manner.
We do our best in distributing information obtained through our research and studies to a wide audience in society, and to become a research institute that can contribute to our society directly or through the Sompo Group’s businesses.
